Work Delegation System

Use this sytem to delegate work effectively and still have time to get stuff done.

Dick Lohr, in his book, “How to Delegate Work and Make Sure its Done Right” talks about a system of cards that could be used to manage the different tasks that you have delegated to your employees. These cards would contain information such as who is responsible, their level of authority, due date, project status, and so on. This is a good system and can certainly help to keep track of what is delegated and allows you to follow up to make sure things get done. But there are 2 inherent problems with using cards to do this: 1) the administrative burden of handling and keeping track of cards, and 2) as cards are physical objects, they have limited space and can be lost or misplaced. Spreadsheets are a much better resource for handling this type of system. A spreadsheet could be set up to help manage work delegation by simply setting up columns for the task, person responsible, due date, level of authority, urgency/importance, and anything else you might feel is needed. This gives you unlimited space, editing, updating, and items will never be lost. And nowadays you can even make so that the file is available on a shared or cloud server so that all of your delegatees have access to it and can get detailed information on what you expect from them. A more advanced version of this file might include KPIs like average time to complete a task per person and how well people execute relative to due date. What are your ideas?
